Memorial Day Wreath

“Oh, what do you do in the Summertime…?”

|

Welcome summer 2019!

If any of you are like me, you might have mixed feelings about summer. For example, you LOVE sleeping in and having no schedule to surrender to. But, you HATE how quickly your kids get hungry and bored all. the. Time! (I mean, it’s enough to want to pull your hair out.)

We are going to (try) to have a fun filled & busy summer! I decided to have a theme for each day of the week this summer as follows:

Make something Monday

Transformation Tuesday

Workout Wednesday

Thoughtful Thursday

Field trip Friday

Saturdays and Sundays in the summer are pretty much gonna be the same as our Saturdays and Sundays during the school year. Dad will be home from work and we always clean the house on Saturday morning. See this post about our “Saturday Money Makers” Sundays have their own routine as well.

The good thing about this is method is that it breaks the summer up into 9 Mondays, 9 Tuesdays, 9 Wednesdays, etc. This is way more manageable to me.

So I’m thinking, “I can come up with 9 things to make…. I can think of 9 areas in the house that needs transforming…. I can workout 9 times with the kids this summer.”

Let’s be honest, the kids will still have time to be hungry and bored this summer, but at least for this year I have a whole bunch of tricks up my sleeves.

Today is Monday May 27th, the 1st day of the 1st week of summer break and it’s also Memorial Day!

So today for Make something Monday I thought we could make red poppies to remember fallen soldiers.

We started out by watching some patriotic videos, including this one about the USAA Poppy Wall of Honor.

I found a poppy coloring page online, printed 8 of them (one for each family member), and then had each person paint their own poppy. The kids totally loved painting!

We then cut them out and glued them onto a wreath. Cute, right?

We made a trip to the Mesa cemetery since it is a much older cemetery and has a lot of veterans there. We ended up spending most of our time searching for and finding deceased family members. It was awesome!

Here’s the pictures from the day:

I am so thankful you to all the soldiers who daily protect my freedoms. And to those who gave their lives, I will always remember!

Good luck to everyone, and “HAGS” (Have a great summer!)
